The leadership team preparing and planning out the hackathon

Throughout the past several years, many hackathons have been targeted for high school students in the South Bay. This made hackathons for San Francisco and Oakland students very unfeasible to attend, due to commute issues. A few students at Lowell High School were determined to solve this issue. The core team - Lev Barkalov, Clarisse Aruino, Amy Chang, Alex Ruiz, Connie Liu, and Rafael Cenzano - believed that hackathons should be an opportunity for all students. So, they launched Hack the Fog in San Francisco.

Well, we are San Francisco's first high school hackathon! The inspiration for the organization of this event was that I had gone to several hackathons during the year and I'd tell my peers about how awesome they are. But, unfortunately, they'd never really understand what they're missing out on - a result of the difficulties of travel. To change that, as well as embrace accessibility and inclusivity, we are organizing Hack the Fog!

Like any other hackathon, the ultimate goal is to not only to create a product with your team, but to make new friends and have a wonderful time! A variety of games and icebreakers, such as meme-scraping workshops, League of Legends game tournaments, and cup stacking challenges are organized as well.

See you there!
