Pioneer Hacks

For all of you who love coding, free goodies, and food, Pioneer Hacks is just the place for you. Pioneer Hacks is a 12 hour hackathon that is taking place on March 17, 2018, at Cupertino High School. This event is organized by Cupertino High School students Ranesh Prasad, Utkarsh Tandon, Aki Praveen, Janvi Shah, Ankita Sahni, Anjan Bharadwaj, Michelle Pan, Sreehari Ram Mohan, and Suki Padwardhan. This is an excellent opportunity for you do build on your coding skills, meet new people, create projects, and make amazing projects. A hackathon is a platform where students come together to build a coding project. This project could be either hardware or software and should be inspired by a problem happening in society. Your job is to solve this problem to your best ability by making apps, websites, and everything else you can imagine that fits the criterion. After an extensive 12 hours of working on your project, you will create a pitch for it, a presentation where you are trying to “sell” your project to the judges.

Our main inspiration for running our hackathon is to provide a fun event where beginners as well as advanced hackers can join together and learn about all aspects of the huge field of computer science. Every year for the past 3 years that we’ve hosted our hackathon, we’ve been committed to making sure that attendees have a great experience and leave the event inspired to continue learning computer science.

Prizes will be given out to the winning projects with $7,500 in total prize value! Attendees will also be rewarded free domains, GitHub Education Packs, access to state-of-the-art datasets, laptop stickers and much more! Furthermore, in order to win some company sponsored prizes (access to Wolfram Alpha Pro accounts, over $1,000 in hosting credit at Digital Ocean, etc), attendees will need to build websites, applications, and other programs that meet specific criteria by each company.

If you have no coding experience, do not be discouraged! Hackathons are great places for people to get their initial exposure to the coding world, and through this experience Pioneer Hacks hopes to instigate the interest to learn lots more! Furthermore, there will be workshops, including an HTML/CSS workshop and an Intro to Machine Learning workshop, where you can learn new coding skills and apply them to your projects. If your team struggles with a problem in the project, there will be mentors there to help you throughout the day with your projects.

You can make a team with your friends. If you don’t have a team, don’t worry about it!

Thanks to Pioneer Hacks sponsors like Quizlet, Yubico, .TECH, and more, there will be a lot of free goodies for you to take home! Along with all the free swag, there will also be a free food and drinks!

The Tinovation club at Cupertino High School has created the 12 hour hackathon, Pioneer Hacks, and has worked hard to make this an amazing learning experience for all. They hope that through this experience, more people will take interest in STEM.
